Q1. What is DSC or Digital Signature Certificate?

A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is an advance secure digital key that certifies the identity of the holder of DSC, issued by a Certifying Authority (CA). A Digital Signature Certificate contains subscriber's identity or KYC like name, email, country, APNIC account name and his public key.

Digital Certificates use PKI Public Key Infrastructure meaning data that has been digitally signed or encrypted by a private key can only be decrypted by its corresponding public key.

Q2. What is encryption in terms of Digital Signature Certificate?

Message encryption provides confidentiality. Allows users to encrypt the document with the general public key which may be decrypted only with the corresponding private key. To put it in simple terms when encrypting, you employ their public key to write down message and recipient uses their private key to read it. One of the foremost secure way of protecting confidential documents.

Q3. What is Signing of documents or message?

Message or document signing binds the identity of the message source to the message. The signing of documents or messages ensures data integrity, message authentication, and non-repudiation altogether at the same time. When signing, you use your private key to write the message’s signature, and they use your public key to check if it’s really yours.

Q4. What is Class 1 (One) Digital Signature Certificate?

Class 1 digital signature certificates are usually issued to individuals or private entities or want to use it for personal use. Class 1 One Digital Signature Certificate offer the lowest kind of security, whose issue without verification process and not contain email Id and address of the applicant.

Q5. What is Class 2 (Two) Digital Signature Certificate?

Class 2 Two Digital Signature Certificate of digital signatures are mostly issued to people in the position of authority in a company or any other legal entity and is available for download after KYC verification including the authentication of mobile, email and authorised person's video. Most of the time it is required that secretaries and directors need to fill online forms that need a signature in case of companies.

The class 2 digital signature certificate is being used for multiple purposes viz. document signing, pdf signing, Invoice signing, income tax return filing, GST filling and ROC forms filling etc.

Q6. What is Paperless DSC Issuance?

When subscriber applies for Digital Signature Certificate before RA (DSC) in a paperless manner using "PAN-based KYC" or "Aadhaar Paperless Offline eKYC" is called as paperless DSC. This feature is only for PAN or Aadhaar holders.

Q7. What is eSign or Electronic Signature?

Q8. What are the major types of electronic signatures?

Simple or Basic electronic signature (SES)

Advanced electronic or digital signature (AES)

Qualified advanced electronic or digital signature (QES)

Q9. What is VID Virtual ID of Aadhaar?

A VID or Virtual ID is verifiable 12 digits random number issued by UIDAI as Unique Identity like Aadhaar to all Residents of India.

Q10. What does PKI stand for?

A public key infrastructure (PKI) may be a system for the creation, storage, and distribution of digital certificates which are wont to verify that a specific public key belongs to a particular entity.

Q11. What is HSM?

An HSM is stand for hardware security module which is a physical device that adds extra security for most sensitive data. HSM is used to add cryptographic keys for critical functions such as encryption, decryption and authentication in the use of applications, identities and databases.

Q12. What are the main types of HSM?

Basically these are of mainly two types depend upon the usasge, viz. General-purpose HSM and Payment Gateway HSM. However on the basis of modules, it can be divided into three categories.

eIDAS is stands for Electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services which is a Europian Union regulation.
